GATEWAY STAY, which can accommodate up to 6 guests, is a spacious 1000 square foot 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment in a great central location, 2 blocks from the Humboldt State University Gateway, one half block from Wildberries Marketplace,  2 blocks from the Northtown shopping and eating district, and 4 blocks from Arcata’s downtown Plaza Square.

 

Gateway Stay is a historically unique and very special property that was thoroughly re-modeled and newly furnished in April/May 2013. The apartment is on the second story of a lovingly restored 1906 Neoclassic Craftsman home, custom built by architect/builder Nelson Johansen, who saved the finest curly redwood and burl panels found in his trade, and crafted this beautiful and now rare wood into his home in windows, doors, and trim. The soaring vaulted ceiling in the redwood great room is solid redwood, as are cabinets, book shelves, and cupboards, lending a lodge-like atmosphere to the space. Beautiful oiled bronze sconces light the ceiling, enhancing its many angles with reflective warmth.

 

The lofty redwood great room is a splendid space, constructed with open rafters and beams finished with oiled bronze hardware, and new wood floors. It is open floor plan with a warmly neutral color palette, enhanced by art pieces (some by local artists), a lovely Craftsman inspired oriental carpet, luminous sheer curtains, and art glass lighting. Visitors can gather together in this room in the comfortable conversation area and watch flat screen TV, enjoy group meals at the dining table which expands, and indulge their gourmet creativity in the fully equipped kitchen with new stainless appliances and a Jenn Air grill.  Guests can gaze out the kitchen window and experience the ever changing view of Arcata Bay skies and tides.

 

Both spacious and bright bedrooms feature new furnishings: memory foam mattresses, sumptuous linens, chenille spreads, duvet comforters, ample down pillows, and nightstands with storage and reading lamps. The front bedroom features a king bed, a large closet, bath ensuite with antique porcelain soaking tub, and a separate desk area. The back bedroom features a queen bed, an entire wall of closets, television, bath ensuite with a walk in shower with multi-jet shower head, and a built in counter sink with cupboard storage in the main room. The front-loading “high efficiency” stainless steel laundry center is in a small room adjacent to the back bedroom.  A sofa in the redwood great room living area can convert into a double bed to accommodate 2 additional guests.

PLEASE NOTE Single nights may be booked in some situations but are subject to Owner/Manager’s discretion.

4-6 Nights – $184.00
7 or more  – $169.00
Per Week – $1183.00

  • Single nights may be booked in some situations but are subject to Owner/Manager’s discretion

  • Sofa Bed: Additional guests $15.00/person/night
  • Nightly rates are subject to 12% city tax
