“Absolutely loved this place! Immaculately presented with new and up market fixtures and fittings. Also very clean and well stocked with towels, bedding, robes and toiletries. Huge comfy rooms and beds and very tastefully decorated. Easy to park in the provided parking space at the rear of the property, it was a joy to return to after a day out visiting the Redwood Park and surrounding area.” Five star guest review on VRBO.COM…….

GATEWAY STAY vacation rental, which can accommodate up to 6 guests, is a spacious 1000 square foot 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment in a great central Arcata location, known locally as Arcata’s Top-O-The-Hill Neighborhood, 2 blocks from the Humboldt State University Gateway and Northtown commercial district, and 4 blocks from Arcata’s downtown Plaza Square. This property is EXCELLENCE RATED by Tripadvisor.

Gateway Stay is a historically unique and very special property that was thoroughly re-modeled and newly furnished in April/May 2013. The apartment is on the second story of a lovingly restored 1906 Neoclassic Craftsman home, custom built by architect/builder Nelson Johansen, who saved the finest curly redwood and burl panels found in his trade, and crafted this beautiful and now rare wood into his custom home. The soaring vaulted ceiling in the redwood great room is solid redwood, as are doors, windows, cabinets, book shelves, and cupboards, lending a lodge-like atmosphere to the space. Beautiful oiled bronze sconces light the ceiling, enhancing its many angles with reflective warmth.

The lofty redwood great room is a splendid space, constructed with open rafters and beams finished with oiled bronze hardware, and wood floors. It is open floor plan with a warmly neutral color palette, enhanced by art pieces (some by local artists), a lovely Craftsman inspired oriental carpet, luminous sheer curtains, and art glass lighting. Visitors can gather together in this room in the comfortable conversation area and watch flat screen TV, enjoy group meals at the dining table which expands, and indulge their gourmet creativity in the fully equipped kitchen with stainless appliances and a Jenn Air grill. Guests can gaze out the kitchen window and experience the ever changing view of Arcata Bay skies and tides. Both spacious and bright bedrooms feature memory foam mattresses, sumptuous linens, and nightstands with storage and reading lamps. The front bedroom has a Cal king bed,  large closet, bath ensuite with antique porcelain soaking tub, and a separate desk area. The back bedroom has a queen bed, an entire wall of closets, flat screen TV, and bath ensuite with a walk in shower with multi-jet shower head. The front-loading “high efficiency” stainless steel laundry center is in a small room adjacent to the back bedroom. A sofa in the redwood great room can convert into a double bed to accommodate 2 additional guests. Off-street parking is available behind the vacation rental.

This vacation rental’s ideal location allows guests to leave their vehicle and stroll down the street to the downtown Plaza or northtown retail districts, the world famous Arcata Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, or Redwood Park trails. Shop at Wildberries Marketplace nearby (like a Whole Foods Market, but locally owned), or if visiting Humboldt State University campus, the HSU Gateway is just 2 blocks away.
