REDWOOD COAST WATER FEATURES

One thing the redwood coast has in abundance is water.  Humboldt and Del Norte Counties are home to Humboldt, Arcata, Trinidad, and Crescent City Bays, sloughs, marshes, wetlands, numerous rivers (some wild, scenic, without dams), 3 lagoons,  Lake Earl, rugged rocky coastline as well as miles of pristine sandy beaches, and streams and creeks.

EVENTS ON ARCATA PLAZA:  Saturday Farmers Market, Arcata to Ferndale Kinetic Sculpture Race, Arcata Bay Oyster Festival

Northcoast Growers Association holds their  Farmers Market on Arcata Plaza.  This popular shopping venue is certified organic and is held every Saturday Mid-April  through November.  This is the longest continuous running organic Farmers Market in California, and it keeps growing (in more ways than one) every year.  The 3-day Arcata to Ferndale Kinetic Sculpture Race is held starting at noon on the Saturday of  Memorial Weekend.  Racers in wacky kinetic contraptions commence their race to Ferndale at the noon whistle.  The Arcata Bay Oyster Festival is held in June on the Saturday before Fathers Day.  Thousands of people flock to the Plaza for these popular events.
