OUR ARCATA STAY MISSION
Our “Arcata Stay Mission” is to arrange upscale vacation rental accommodations convenient walking distance to Arcata’s downtown plaza and H.S.U., which provide our visiting guests the most positive lodging experience possible.
ABOUT ARCATA STAY
Christy Laird owns and operates Arcata Stay Lodging Network, created in 2004. She owns Rose Court Cottage and manages the other Arcata Stays for her four owner partners. Presently there are 5 Stays in the Lodging Network, ranging from studios to one and two bedroom accommodations. The Arcata Stay model has seen continuous success since its inception in 2004, with guest accolades, partners pride of ownership, and employees who are invested in their work and function closely together as a supportive team. The location of each vacation rental property in the Arcata Stay Network is significant, in that each Stay must be short walking distance to Humboldt State University and the Plaza shopping district. Most of Arcata’s lodging options are not walking distance to the downtown, as they are located north of the city center in the Valley West neighborhood. Our guests truly appreciate the in-town convenience of our Arcata Stay locations.
PROFILE OF CHRISTY LAIRD
I have had a love affair with Arcata since I moved here over 40 years ago to attend Humboldt State University. I graduated and couldn’t imagine leaving this special place; our progressive kinda-quirky little university town is like none other. The abundance of natural beauty just minutes away in any direction is phenomenal: the tallest most majestic redwood trees in the world, miles of unspoiled rugged coastline, sand dunes, lagoons, six beautiful rivers, ever changing Humboldt Bay, and our world famous Arcata Marsh Wildlife Refuge, to name a few.
I opened Rose Court Cottage in January 2004, upon retiring from a 22 year career as a sales representative. Having traveled for years, I knew what lodging amenities I appreciated and I have made every effort to provide for my guests’ comfort during their stay.
The redwood coast is a highly desirable northern California tourism destination. Our region offers diverse adventure and travel opportunities which attract visitors from around the world. Since opening in 2004, I have hosted a good number of those visitors at Rose Court Cottage and the other Arcata Stay vacation rentals, guiding them to the unique features of our area. I have developed friendships with guests who return again and again to visit their HSU students or families residing in Arcata, attend our many festivals and events, conduct business, or return to a getaway that they love. Arts, culture, music, theater, shopping, food and drink, being “green” before it was groovy, a lively downtown Plaza, outdoor adventure, architecture, history, and a friendly embracing community make Arcata a destination not to be missed. Within an hour’s drive from Arcata, our guests can experience the natural wonders of our region, and return at the end of the day to their Arcata “home away from home.”
